We invite your website to a Halloween party

If you have a website that allows a temporary change to its look (such as Tumblr, Blogger and Wordpress), we invite you to our website Halloween party.

If you are still scratching your head, a website wearing a costume means changing your theme. We challenge websites to ‘wear’ a different theme on Halloween night as to ‘disguise’ your website to look like another one.

The theme could be created by you or picked up from the theme websites. If you are interested in ‘attending’ the party, send @GetGoogleChrome a direct message - and please pass the word!

Update! Twitter now allows you to customize your page! How far can you go? Twitter pages are also invited to participate in our Halloween party!

So could your website look like Twitter? CNN? Techmeme? Gmail? Yahoo? YouTube? Would we ‘recognize’ your costume? As an example, up until Tuesday this website was a Tumblr blog with some standard theme. Yesterday we customized it to look like Google Chrome. Did you recognize us? We posted Google Chrome themes for Wordpress, Blogger and Tumblr.

A good disguise should ‘look’ as close as possible to the website you are representing. A great disguise should also ‘act’ like that website - the equivalent functionality for your content. For example, we tried to make our theme look closer to Google Chrome by adding a working search bar where Chrome has one, and we’re looking into creating automated thumbnails of our most visited pages to mimic Chrome’s “Most Visited” page (when you open a new tab).

Just like people’s Halloween parties - we plan to have a prize. Sponsors welcome to drop us a note! Keep in mind that participating will drive quite some traffic to your website, and winning will most probably make you the topic of that week - consider such visibility part of the prize.

If we have many attendees we might have to sign up some judges to try the websites, or open up voting to the public - so you can also participate if you are not a website owner or you can’t change your look. We would judge them over the week following Halloween night.

Start preparing your websites!
